I wore a sweater, pigeons stalked the sidewalks. I saw one with a foot missing. It skulked a lurching, crooked path; scouring the cobbles for crumbs with beady eyes, pecking at motes of this and that and whatever. At the margins of the pathways fallen leaves dematerialized in trampled snow. Ducks meander through the pools making their toy car sounds and probing the water with their beaks.
I keep reading stuff online where people claim their 30+ year old Revere Ware cookware is still going strong. I’m talking about the stainless pots.
Sixteen, almost seventeen, years ago, we received a set of Revere Ware pans as a wedding gift from my uncle. This is not a good idea. I submitted a note via the online form under customer care and received a prompt and pleasant reply. I told her the pots were over 16 years old, and I have no paperwork or warranty information. Could I buy a new lid from them? Revere Ware pans have a year warranty. I just had to inform them of my situation, and this positive, upbeat customer service representative took care of everything.
So many companies try to get out of their warranty obligations, I thought I would praise a place that went far beyond what I ever expected or imagined. I had a similar experience with KitchenAid. The little rubber feet under my big stand mixer, dating back to , were crumbling. I called the company, also offered to buy a set of rubber feet thingies.
The nice lady said they would send me a set.

There is a few marks but nothing bad and of course the bottoms are not perfect. Just normal ware due to their age.

Does anyone know how old my Revere ware might be?
When Husband and I were dating years ago, he became sick of visiting my My very first set of cookware was the starter set of Revere Ware.

Stove-top and oven-ware were typically heavy cast iron, copper, or bronze , while lighter tinware was used for kettles, cups, and tableware. Cookware was a later addition, coming after , and included skillets with heavy copper bodies, straight sides, and flat uninsulated iron handles.
Lightweight nickel or chrome plated tea kettles and coffee pots were also important products. These were made from multiple parts formed from copper sheet; soldered together, and finally plated with first nickel, and later chrome. Cookware then a minor facet of its business was assigned to the recently upgraded Rome Manufacturing plant in NY; which then became the headquarters of the Manufactured Products Division for Revere Copper and Brass, Inc.
Initially, they proved expensive and were difficult to adapt to then-current manufacturing methods.

By Backroads , January 8, in Advice Board. When Husband and I were dating years ago, he became sick of visiting my apartment and only having old cheap cookware to work with. So, gambling on the odds he would later propose to me, he bought me a less-cheap set. Now, years later, the coating is heavily flaking off most of the pans despite the best care.
In I bought a pot and pan set from Amway my friend’s brother was selling it. It was for my “hope chest”.

Prior to , Paul Revere was first a master silversmith, then a patriot general in the Revolutionary War. Revere began producing cookware in , when little thought was given to design, other than to make it functional. Stove-top and oven-ware were typically heavy made from cast iron, copper, or bronze , while lighter tinware made from several pieces of pressed copper which were then soldered together and tin plated was used for kettles, cups, and tableware. Cookware production then a minor facet of its business was assigned to the recently upgraded Rome Manufacturing plant in NY.
Initially however, they were difficult to adapt to the manufacturing methods of the time. Stainless steel was unsatisfactory as a cooking surface a poor heat conductor, it tends to burn food rather than cook it. Starting from a clean slate, priority was given to changes that would be of genuine benefit to the user, rather than merely cosmetic. A new cooking surface was needed — one which retained the cooking qualities of tin-lined copper, but with increased durability.
User comfort reduced weight and longer, wider handles and cleaning ease seemless construction, rounded courners, and rivetless construction were important. While research continued on the new cookware, the Manufactured Products Division continued to produce their existing line of cookware at the Rome NY factory, developing additional expertise in high-quality metal forming techniques. During this period, the basic designs for the future coffee pot and tea-kettle lines were conceptualized.

The new site update is up! I know I’m lucky my house didn’t burn down, but do I really need to buy new cookware? I have an old Revere Ware copper-bottomed saucepan, maybe 30 years old. I was heating some water on the gas stovetop and got distracted–called away to another room, stupidly left the pot boiling for a good hour or so. By the time I returned, all the water had boiled away, the inside of the pot was swirled with white powdery marks, and the bottom had a thin layer of black burnt stuff flaking off.
Under the black layer, which I can scrub off pretty easily, there’s still copper. I’d rather throw away the pot than risk having the bottom fall off while cooking or some other disaster, but I don’t want to throw away a still-usable pot. Is it safe to use? The residue at the bottom is just a combination of salts white powder and organic material black layer that was present in the water.
Once you scrub all that off you’ll have the same pan you did before the accident. I’m not clear why you think the bottom would fall off? Is it loose? I’ve done that in a Revere Ware pan multiple times If you get some Bar Keepers Friend, that should take off the burn marks.

Revere Ware produced during the good years of has a stamp on the bottom that includes a circle and either the words “Process Patent” or “Pat. Pend.
No, not that kind. I have had a life-long affection for pots and pans, sometimes bordering on emotional instability. Maybe it’s not really an addiction. Perhaps affliction is a better word. Have you ever bought a whole new set of pots that duplicated your existing sets of pots and, three days later – overwhelmed with shame – returned them, claiming it was a wedding gift and the bride died?
And so it goes. I have thrown pans against the kitchen wall in disgust. I have gotten up in the middle of the night, lovingly cleaned and reseasoned an old, neglected pan and put it to sleep in a cozy, warm oven. Once, but only once, I tried to kill a frying pan called the Perfect Omelet Pan for being imperfect.

A friend just gave me her late aunt’s copper bottomed Revere ware. My friend doesn’t cook. The bottoms say made in Riverside CA. A little googling told me that Revere ware was first made in NY and now is not made in the US at all.
I also read some complaints about the newer ones being poor quality. These seem nice and heavy. I especially like the double boiler.
